The Rise of the Witch-King is an expansion to The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle Earth II. The expansion pack allows you to control the rise of evil in Middle Earth.

What is The LOTR: BFME II: The Rise of The Witch-King about?

Even though BFME II and Rise of the Witch-King seem similar, but their main difference is Angmar. Comparing both games, Witch King has new units, maps, hero, and single player mode, all that wasn’t in BFME II.

The Witch-King is the primary lieutenant of the dark lord Sauron, and the leader of the Nazgul, his army’s fearsome black-robed generals. After the epic battle, which was shown at the beginning of the film, The Ring Fellowship, the expansion is set. The Rise of the Witch-King campaign is of the tale that the Witch-King was to undertake between Angmar and Arnor before and during the battle before Sauron returned to Mordor. The campaign offers seven new missions.

The plot of the game is, Angmar’s Witch-King builds a realm out of nothing and gathers an army from the northern people, most of whom are Wolves, Trolls, Orcs, and differing Black Numenoreans; to destroy Arnor’sDunedain kingdom. The epilogue allows the players to place themselves in the footsteps of the good races. As you attempt to create your kingdom, the epic story continues and it ends with the King of Gondor dropping down to stop you. The Rise of the Witch-King expansion pack does justice to the history of The Lord of the Rings, and even improves it by incorporating Sauron’s diabolical schemes seamlessly into it.

This guide explains how to play Rise of the Witch-king without a DVD. This is useful for players who don't own a working disc or who just want to save time by not having to constantly insert it before starting the game. Fortunately, running the game without a disc is simple. The procedure will work even if you have RotWK already installed, regardless of your patch.

Things you are going to need

- Software to mount a virtual drive

• WinCDEmu - recommended, as it's completely free and doesn't install unwanted secondary software.
• Daemon Tools - very popular alternative, but remember to uncheck the box asking you to install secondary software with it! Due to a recent change you should mount the image file through Daemon's 'Mount to SCSI' option otherwise running the game without cd won't work.
• Alcohol 52% - known to try to force you to keep secondary software installed with it. Use this as a last resort if all else fails.

Installation

Once you have installed a virtual drive software and downloaded the No-CD files:
1. Mount the Nocd.mdf. With WinCDEmu installed you can just double click the file and click OK. With other software you may need to open the software, and find the option to mount the file to a new drive.
2. Run RotWK by double clicking on the game shortcut. Note: If you continue getting the 'No CD in drive' error message after running the game from the 2.02 Patch Launcher, just run the game from the actual shortcut that is created when you first install the game.
3. That's it! You should be able to run the game from the shortcut as much as you want. Note: if you restart your computer or shut down your mounting software for some reason, you will need to re-mount the game (see step 1 above) before running it again.
For those who are going for a clean installation use the steps below to avoid confusion.
1. Install BFME2 (once installed, you don't need to do anything with it, except patching it if you wish).
2. Install RotWK.
3. Use the No-CD guide described above.
4. Download 2.01 patch using the Game Updater. You can do this by going to Multiplayer > Online. You will automatically be prompted to download the patch. Note: you won't actually play the game via Multiplayer > Online, just use it to trigger the patch update.
5. The Official 2.02 download page contains patch 2.02 which fixes many of the bugs and imbalances from the 2.01 version and also contains links for various language packs which may be useful.

Q: I still get the No-CD error despite having mounted the image file.
A: Your virtual drive software probably cannot read the file. Try using a different software. Alternatively, if you installed WinCDEmu and are trying to run the game from the 2.02 Patch Launcher directly, try running it from the game shortcut instead.

Q: I installed 2.02 successfully and am able to start game, but when joining 2.02 games I get a mismatch error. What should I do?
A: You probably used a cracked game.dat file included in a torrent. You should NOT use any cracks whatsoever in the process even if you don't have the original game. You can fix the issue by either downloading the game.dat file from here and replacing your current game.dat with it, or reinstall RotWK without applying any cracks.
Q: I'm having intro movie errors when I launch my game. I have my game installed in another version than English too. What should I do?
A: You can either uninstall your RotWK and install the English version, or make sure you install both BFME2 and RotWK in your language of choice. If you intend on using the game in another language, DO NOT USE Forshire's compressed editions.
